United Sleep Products (“USP” or the “Company”) is a leading manufacturer of bedding products, specializing in private label products sold to retailers in the East and Midwest U.S. The Company sells a full line of mattresses, foundations, futons and pillows. USP is based in Denver, Pennsylvania with additional operations in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Situation
After suffering operational and financial inefficiencies resulting from raw materials price increases, poor product management decisions made by former management and significant over-ordering from foreign suppliers, USP engaged SSG to evaluate strategic alternatives, including a sale of substantially all of the Company’s assets.
Solution
SSG acted as exclusive investment banker to USP during its sale process. The Company was marketed to a diverse group of prospective strategic and financial buyers. Park Place Corporation’s bid was deemed the best value for the Company and its stakeholders and allowed USP to operate as a going concern and retain much of its incumbent workforce. The sale closed in June 2007.
